PAID/automated Aluminum Can Recycling in Madison, WI?

Are there any sites, like the automatic machines– you dump all your cans on there and it calculates how much aluminum you put in and gives you some pocket change?

Madison is excellent at recycling for those who don’t know, and we have large green recycle bins we put out with our normal trash where the aluminum cans usually go.

I don’t think we have any of those machines here in Madison, but there are places you can take your aluminum cans and cash them in…one I saw recently is Kars Recycling. They pay by the pound, and I read somewhere that you need around 40 cans to make a pound, so you’ll need some room to save them if that’s what you want to do. I’d look up ‘Aluminum Can Recycling Madison” and see what you can find. They don’t pay much–like 30 cents a pound or something, but if you want to save them yourself, then you get the $$$ instead of the city getting it. I think the city just sells all the recyclables they collect anyway…

How do I recycle? What items go where?

I am guilty of not recycling and I want to change that. However, I am having a hard time finding information on how to do it! We have the green recycling bins outside my apartment for easy access. Do I just put all recyclable materials in a plastic bag and throw it in that green bin? I feel silly for asking but really need some help here!
