Managing waste, save energy, save money – Go Green Today!
Earlier this week I was in our local health food store waiting for my shift in the output of counter when I noticed the lady in front of me had bought her own re-usable carry bags which suddenly made much more sense to me than choosing "paper or plastic". When we witness examples of people who choose to live in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly fashion, makes us stop and reflect on our own lives and purchasing practices.
Global Green USA program inviting celebrities to arrive at the Academy Awards in transport efficient energy began in 2002 with only four participants. This year, Jennifer Aniston and supporting actress nominee Frances McDormand were among the 25 Staff to participate in the fourth edition of the "Red Carpet, Green Cars" event sponsored by the environmental organization Global Green USA and Toyota Motor Corp. Participants in the program reached either Toyota or Lexus hybrids.
Given that nearly 40 million people watch the Academy Awards that creates a great opportunity for a lesson in green living and shows that can be environmentally conscious in style.
The same applies to planning a "meeting of green. "In the process you are not giving up anything and you can save a lot in terms of cost and waste in the process.
A green meeting or event incorporating environmental considerations to minimize any adverse impact on the environment. There are also economic benefits for using recycled materials, reuse products and reducing the amount of materials used. Plan an environmentally responsible event and promote the environmental characteristics of keeping your event the following ideas in mind:
To prevent and reduce waste
Use double-sided printing for promotional materials and brochures.
Avoid sharing mass of pamphlets and allow attendees to order copies.
Provide reusable name badges.
Recycling and waste management
Collect the paper and recyclable beverage containers in meeting areas.
Collect cardboard and paper in exhibit areas.
Collect cardboard, beverage containers, cans aluminum, plastics and food vending areas.
If reusable containers are not used, encourage use of recyclable beverage containers.
Store energy and reduce traffic
Looking for daylight meeting and exhibition spaces.
Publicize mass transportation options.
Provide shuttle service from transit stops or hotels for the event.
Food Service and Accommodation
Plan food service needs carefully to avoid unnecessary waste.
Consider use of durable goods for the food service.
Donate excess food to charities.
Working with the hotel in the non-replacement of clothing, soap, etc.
Buy eco-conscious products
Use recycled paper and vegetable inks soybeans for the promotion of materials and brochures.
Consider selling or providing refillable containers for beverages.
Provide reusable containers for brochures or samples (pocket or file folders, cloth bags).
Where reusable items are not feasible, select products that are made from materials recovered and can also be recycled.
Educating Participants and Exhibitors
Request the use of recycled and recyclable brochures or gifts.
Request that unused items be collected for use at another event.
Encourage participants to recycle materials at the event.
Reward participation communicating environmental savings achieved.
