what can I plant in these dry conditions (California)?
we live in the sierra nevadas and we have a large yard for our dogs but it is basically just dirt and dust. green grass wont do well here without constant watering. we jusr want to keep the dust down and dirt out of our house. is there any desert grasses we can seed within a budget. we looked into artificial grass but its expensive for such a large area. whatever goes there must be able to be walked on. suggestions needed
there are grasses that grow in desert conditions but dogs are hard on grass of any sort,If you have an existing perimeter fence on the property lines, you can do what I did and put another fence about ten feet inside the existing fence creating a perimeter dog run, this will save the grass from excess wear and tear from the dogs without sacrificing the security that they provide. I’ve run it all the way around my house and gated it at the drive way using two 10 foot long swing gates that close off the dog run when I go in or out.

I moved to a new neighborhood and my neighbor is a reall sweet older couple maybe early 70′s.?
Im 30 and pregnant and living on a tight budget. So theres this garden in the front of our yard we live in a duplex. The person who lived there before me planted it. Its really nice problem is my neighbor wants me to keep it up. I have no green thumb also im 32w pregnant. I dont even like being outside im a city girl from New Orleans HELLO!!! i know nothing about this garden stuff. Im just not into stuff like this. How do i let my neghibor know i cant do this. I mean i dont want the neighborhood to go down because of me. My back hurts, and i work 915 to 615daily. What can i do? Dont have money to pay someone else to do it. I DONT WANT A GARDEN
its your garden now and you can do whatever you like with it. not only is it nearly impossible for you to garden now with your sore back and work schedule, it will be even harder to do it with a new baby.
the only thing i can think of is rip out the existing garden and replace with plants that dont need alot of maitenence.
just remember its about you not the neighbours, and they should understand that its physically impossible for you to garden at the moment
