green construction practices

By David Leonhardt and Corey Rozon

The environment is in the media every day, from the Kyoto Protocol, Global Warming fusion icecap. If things do not change soon, the future looks bleak, if you listen to the experts.

What nobody seems to be discussing is the progress in construction and industrial sectors, namely the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

"The LEED certification will provide challenges for the industry, including the need to ensure understanding of a new generation of material properties and the development of practices and processes necessary to ensure the specifications and the finished products meet green building standards. I am especially exited to be part of this process and make a contribution towards shaping the new building technologies. "Ken Moscrip, president of Paramount Roll and Training – one of the southern metallurgical companies California's largest stock.

It has a clear set of environmental performance criteria organized into six categories, the Canadian version of LEED, which is very similar to the version USGBC, are listed below:

Sustainable Sites
Water efficiency
Energy and Atmosphere
Materials And Resources
Indoor Environmental Quality
Innovation in design

"Building green is not a new thing, it is right, and we always try to use construction practices more environmentally neutral and materials. However, construction waste is always a problem, ask what we need and use it when needed, it has helped us divert as much as possible to the local landfill. There are commitments that we all have, but protecting our future and the rational management of our planet should be one of our top priorities. "Justin Linden, President of ServiceBlocks Inc. – a company of home renovation in Ottawa, Canada.

Benefits of green building

Sustainable buildings considerably lower operating and maintenance costs, and these financial benefits are made during the life of the building:

Reducing energy costs
Reduced water use
Reduced consumption Resources
Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases

For the construction industry, green building will continue to grow in importance, either because of consumer demand, regulatory requirements, or the cost of energy.

"Designers of LEED process guides and builders to make technically superior decisions in ways that are environmentally responsible. By adopting this process, are demonstrating their commitment to its customers, their profession and the wider global community. This allows them to offer the best design solution for both the owner and the environment. "Vipul Acharya, Durisol Building Systems Inc., a leader in green building materials ICF.

In the United States – USA Green Building Council target = "_blank"> www.usgbc.org

The best way to demonstrate that a building is "green" is to achieve LEED certification.

Given the new emphasis on environmental issues, sustainable design is increasingly important. LEED is at the forefront of the environmental industry, and can also be used as an excellent marketing tool. LEED can be easily incorporated into the environmental design of the buildings themselves, trade industry and residential to industrial practices.
